Every year approximately 110 people (women, children and men) die from domestic and family violence in Australia.

In 2014 we saw the inaugural year of the Darkness to Daylight Challenge with 280 participants taking on the challenge led by its founder Rob Reed and a committee of lawyers from Minter Ellison. Together $20,000 was raised.

In 2017, the event raised in excess of $180,000, with more than 2,500 participants including corporate teams and individual runners.

In 2018, we hope the event will continue to increase exponentially, with a fundraising goal of $200,000 and close to 2,800 participants.

The annual Darkness to Daylight Challenge is held at South Bank Parklands during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.

The 110km night run, which can be run as a an individual or as part of a team, also includes an early morning 10km route and 3km walk for supporters. Every kilometre symbolises a life lost to the epidemic of domestic and family violence each year.

A major community awareness-raising activity, through its symbolism, the event represents bringing the issue and those affected out of the darkness and into the daylight.

Taking part is a physical way to bring attention to an important social issue, and for us to come together as a community to carry the message that domestic and family violence is not ok!
